Il Fraseggio Italiano: Masterclass with Antonella Costantini

Born in Rome, Antonella Costantini is an Italian pianist and coach, as well as a world-renowned expert on music pedagogy and Mozartean, Belcanto and Lied repertoire.
After graduating in piano from the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatoire of Trieste, she moved to Salzburg to complete her studies as a soloist at the Georg Demus Academy. She then went on to pursue an additional specialism in accompaniment under the guidance of Maestro Erik Werba in Vienna.
A particular interest of Prof. Costantini’s is contemporary music, which she studied in depth at Conservatorio L. Cherubini (Florence) with Prof. Giancarlo Cardini.
While in Florence, she also diversified her studies, training in repertoire for the fortepiano at the Bartolomeo Cristofori Academy under the tuition of Prof. Stefano Fiuzzi.
At the beginning of her professional career she was a resident young artist and collaborative pianist at: Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Accademia di Alta Formazione P. Mascagni di Livorno and Accademia di Acquasparta.
From 1987 she performed as a concert pianist, both as a soloist and in chamber music, as well as dedicating herself ardently to her work as an accompanist.
During this time she performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls and Festivals throughout Europe, including Estate fiesolana and Carinthischer Sommer.
She also worked in collaboration with Dimitri Ashkenazy, Augusto Vismara and Dorotea Vismara. From 1994 to 2001 she played all over the world with the double-bassist Ovidiu Badila, with whom she recorded the complete piano and double bass works of Bottesini for Dynamic Records.
Prof. Costantini brought her passion for teaching to the Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen (Germany) and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel (Switzerland). Later, she became Director of Music at the International School of Trieste and is currently also Head of Music of OperUs.
Since 2006, Antonella Costantini is also one of the directors of Nati per la Musica, a program dedicated to promoting the educational and health benefits of music in early child development which runs regular multidisciplinary training courses throughout Europe.
Costantini has given masterclasses to pianists and singers in many countries and is Head of the OperUs ABRSM examination centre in Trieste.
In addition to her workshop “Il Fraseggio Italiano” held at the Royal Academy of Music, London she will also be coaching and accompanying singers alongside celebrated contralto Sonia Prina at their masterclass "Händel & Baroque" at the Old Diorama Arts Centre in September 2022.
What is "fraseggio"?
"Fraseggio", or phrasing, is the art of putting the expressive side of musicianship into performance.
The term "fraseggio" refers to the combined musical phrases that make up the structure of a composition.
Who is this masterclass for?
The masterclass is aimed at both singers and pianists. Undergraduates, postgraduates and young professionals are welcome to attend, and there is no upper age limit.
What are the benefits?
As well as valuable experience, the benefits of the workshop will include deep technical, practical and phonetic analysis of the selected repertoire; certain participants will be selected for a series of recitals in Italy. All attendees will also get the chance to network with industry links

During this day our Director of Music along with our Artistic Director will be selecting young artists for a series of 4 recitals in Italy (Trieste, Montepulciano, Grosseto & Arezzo) and other jobs in our 2023/24 Season.

The masterclass is open to participants and auditors, both students and young professionals.
Attendees will be divided into:
Participants (6 singers, 6 pianists)
Auditors (Unlimited number. Permitted to attend classes and can ask questions in breaks)

Selections will be made based on the material sent.
No audition fee will be charged.
If selected, our team will send you details to complete enrolment and make payment of the non-refundable course fee, which must be completed within one week of receiving confirmation of selection.
No fee will be incurred by candidates who are not selected.
OperUs will not be responsible in the event of postponement of the course due to reasons beyond our control. If it is not possible to conduct the masterclass on the intended dates, it will be rescheduled and the new dates will be communicated swiftly. Since the masterclass will still take place in the event of postponement, no refund of course fees will be possible.
