Arturo Espinosa
Bass-baritone
Chilean bass-baritone Arturo Espinosa is establishing himself as a distinctive artist of the new generation, with a career increasingly centred on the European operatic scene. His engagements have brought him to leading theatres and institutions including Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Pergolesi, Teatro Verdi di Pisa, Teatro Alighieri, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, and Ópera Nacional de Santiago.
His repertoire reflects a wide-ranging artistic profile, extending from Mozart and Rossini to Bizet, Puccini, Pergolesi, and the great sacred works of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Recent appearances include Don Basilio in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at Teatro Verdi di Pisa and Teatro Alighieri, as well as Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen at Teatre-Auditori Sant Cugat.
Espinosa’s Mozart roles include Leporello and the title role in Don Giovanni, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, and Colas in Bastien und Bastienne. In the Italian repertoire, he has appeared as Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Uberto in La serva padrona, and Colline in La bohème. His repertoire also includes Mahomet II in Rossini’s Le siège de Corinthe and Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen.
His concert repertoire includes Bach’s Johannes-Passion and Matthäus-Passion, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle. This activity in sacred and symphonic repertoire complements his operatic work and reflects a musical preparation grounded in both vocal and interpretative discipline.
Arturo Espinosa studied in Chile and Europe. He holds a degree in Music Education from Universidad de Concepción, where he began his musical training before continuing his vocal studies with Rodrigo Navarrete, Christian Senn, and Maria Grazia Pani. He has also taken part in masterclasses with Plácido Domingo, Jaume Aragall, Mariella Devia, Eva Mei, Ruggero Raimondi, Roger Vignoles, Jessica Pratt, and Alex Esposito.
He is an alumnus of Plácido Domingo’s Centre de Perfeccionament at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía and of the “Fabbrica” Young Artist Program at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, two institutions that have contributed significantly to his artistic development and to his connection with the European opera world.
With a repertoire that combines classical, bel canto, French, Italian, and sacred works, Arturo Espinosa continues to develop a career defined by stylistic curiosity, stage experience, and an increasingly international artistic presence.
